Updates and Headaches

Its been a while 🙂

In the period since my last post (sans the financing my MBA post), I have resigned my job, obtained my visa, booked my flight home (I’ve got some free time to spend with the family) booked my flight to Chicago and finalized my living arrangements. I’m going to give a brief description of the Visa process & apartment hunting (it may not be useful to some) but …

On a lighter note…

I’m currently sitting in the saloon getting my hair done. Which means I’ve got some free time even if it is just a few hours. Anyway, a few things just occurred to me:

I’ll need a new saloon
I’m hungry – I’m gonna miss Nigerian food.

Not Panicking

I am not panicking. Nope, Not at all.

But I am beginning to wonder what I was thinking when I decided to work full-time and plan my cross-continent relocation at the same time. There is a lot to do and I am honestly very tired – most (if not all) of the time! Read the rest of this entry »

Divergent Roads

“The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
― Robert Frost

So which is the road less travelled? I don’t know but I’ll tell you the two roads Read the rest of this entry »

Plans, Plans & more Plans

That seems to be all my life is about now. I really wish I could afford to go on funemployment right now so I can fully focus on preparing for school but I can’t for two reasons, only one of which is money. *sigh*.

I’ve recently realised that I’m not as disorganised as I thought but I’m not as organised as most type-A personalities, though I will agree that I am a ‘plan-a-holic’. This is what my current ‘final’ plan looks like (dates are the latest possible date for concluding the tasks – I hope): Read the rest of this entry »

On your marks …

It’s been a while since I posted anything here. Very sorry for the silence but it was necessary. Here’s a rundown of what has happened since my last post:

  • I’ve gone on a mini-vacation
  • Gotten on an (read: several) apartment wait list (also actively searching on Zillow)
  • had a minor surgery
  • Freaked out over the financial implications of getting an MBA (this is almost routine now)
  • Turned down a job offer
  • Turned down a post-MBA job offer (two actually)
  • Met with a few members of the Booth class of 2017 (nice people)
  • Paid my second commitment deposit
  • Wrapped up several projects at work

That turned out to be quite a list 🙂 , I’ve been busy.  Read the rest of this entry »

Tasting the fear

I’ve officially committed to the Booth class of 2017 and I know its a great decision. So why am I afraid? There is definitely no way I will be worse off come 2017 but I’m not all about being rational.

On being waitlisted

The sad part of being waitlisted is that the struggle for admission is not over.

The happy part of being waitlisted is that the struggle for admission is not over.

Yes, you read right. No I did not make a mistake.

I have no pink shoes

First off I’d like to wish all round two applicants the very best of luck in their applications. Hope you get into your dream schools.

Since my admission to Booth, I have being immersed in the Booth culture and I can say that I did not make a mistake in my initial analysis. Also, I am now much more certain that I can flourish in that environment. I have also noted that I am not as open to change as I thought I was. I know I will be going to business school this fall but I’m not as elated about it as I should be and this has nothing to do with the school I got into (which is a great school).

I will be leaving my home, my job, my friends. Everything that is familiar to me. As much as I’m excited, I’m scared out of my wits. And that is the reason why my mind keeps wandering; developing a pro/con list based on the things that I love and the things I don’t Read the rest of this entry »
